Dragon Boat Festival

Entertainment in Macau runs the gamut from wild and exciting to mellow and tranquil. Whether you like coffee and Portuguese cookies in a lamp-lit tiled square whilst watching night time revelers, or whether you enjoy hurtling through air attached to a bungee cord, Macau welcomes you and has much to offer.

Dominating the Macao skyline is the Macau Tower Convention & Entertainment Center, which has something for everyone.  For a thrill you can whisk to the top in a glass elevator, enjoying the observation deck, with its breathtaking views and outdoor café. Walk the hair-raising AJ Hackett Skywalk 216 meters above Macao, or enjoy a 70-meter Flying Fox cable ride. Inside, a 500-seat theater offers everything from full-scale productions to cinematic screenings of the latest hit movies.  Kids of all ages will love the bungee trampoline, as well as the hand-painted grand carousel.   A life size Carvel ship replica shows a slice of life, pirate style, as well. Everyone will enjoy the 360 Café, the Tower’s revolving restaurant.

For more traditional arts and entertainment, visit Macau’s Cultural Center, where you can catch an arty film or a musical, symphony, or opera.  Jazz lovers should check out The Glass House on the waterfront for live edgy performances.  A lot of cabaret and live performances are available in the casinos and hotels, as well, the most notable being the Crazy Paris Show. This colorful show is featured in the historic Mona Lisa Hall in the Hotel Lisboa's New Wing. The lighting and sound systems are excellent, and the dancers are selected from the best in Europe. Performances are nightly at 8:00 pm and 9:30 pm, as well as 11:00 pm on Saturdays.

Entertainment in Macau is varied. For the sports enthusiast, a visit to Coloane Island should be lots of fun. The Macau Golf and Country Club, with its unique view over the Pearl River and the black-sand Hac Sa Beach, is one of the most beautiful golf courses in Asia, open to locals and foreigners. The Hac Sa Beach itself is worth a visit, as is its Nautical Center, where you can rent pedal boats, canoes, and windsurfing equipment. Don’t forget to also explore the beautiful Cheoc Van warm water beach and its surrounding esplanades and swimming pools.  Adults and kids alike will love the weekend Go-karting track on Coloane, so don’t miss it!

Macau arts and entertainment are in a state of rapid development, as tourism in Macao expands.  The newest area to open is the spectacular Fisherman’s Wharf, a themed park that was built on reclaimed land between Coloane and Taipa Island.  It is divided into different themed port towns, so one can escape to Cape Town, Amsterdam or the Italian Riviera in the same evening. The kids will love the active volcano, children’s fort, and Roman amphitheater.  Macau entertainment tends to fuse the old with the new brilliantly. The Dynasty Wharf replicates the time of the Tang Dynasty, offering more tranquil Chinese kiosks, tea parlors and traditional folk treats.

The most spectacular entertainment in Macau has got to be the laser and music shows, weekend evenings at the beautiful Cybernetic Fountain. Located on the waterfront, across from the palace, this amazing fountain boasts jets as high as 8o meters, and 228 multicolored spotlights give it dramatic beauty. Take a Macau tour in a chauffeur-driven 1920’s English bus, rent a traditional pedicab, similar to a rickshaw, for a breezy waterfront ride, or walk through Macau’s lamp-lit architecture by night. Entertainment in Macau is 24 hours, so enjoy every minute!
