Macau Shows

Image

As with anything else in Macau, Macau shows offer a lot of variety and exotic culture. Are you in the mood for flashy, cabaret-style entertainment? There are several shows every night at the numerous Macau resorts, hotels and casinos containing nightclubs. You'll also find famous high-profile entertainers, Portuguese folk dancing, disc jockey discotheques and live dance bands, depending on the place you choose.  The Crazy Paris show is offered twice daily at Hotel Lisboa, at 8:00 pm and 9:30 pm.  Jai Alai Show Palace offers continuous show performances every night from 7:00 pm to 2:00 a.m. The new Macau hotel, Sands Macau has great entertainment every night from dusk to dawn in the Xanadu Entertainment Bar. There you will find live performances, everything from traditional Chinese costumed dance to energetic European and Cantonese pop performers.

If you like live music, Macau entertainment offers everything from international pop to Brazilian, Latin and African music. Many five-star Macau resorts and hotels offer live music. Three notable hotels for live music shows are Bar Fortuna Palace at Hotel Fortuna, Embassy Bar at The Mandarin Oriental Hotel, and UFO at the Jai Alai Complex.

The Docks (Docas) is really the best area for Macau shows featuring live music, however. Evenings are always lively in the Docas area at the south end of the Macau peninsula! To find this region, simply look eastward from the Nobre de Carvalho bridge for the twenty-meter-high bronze statue of Kun Iam, the Buddhist Goddess of Mercy. She stands on a lotus flower pedestal facing the NAPE gardens. This waterfront area has dozens of Macau restaurants, cafes, bars and Macau clubs which remain open until the early morning hours. Each establishment offers unique atmosphere, both indoors and out front at their sidewalk tables. A wide assortment of music styles can be heard as you walk by, so it is fun to stroll around the blocks before choosing your particular place to sit and relax. On Fridays and Saturdays, in particular, live bands will be performing – anything from Filipino house bands to heavier rock outfits to Portuguese folk music.  Also on the Macau waterfront, stop by the extremely popular jazz club The Glass House. Overlooking the Pearl River, the club has live jazz every night from Wednesday to Sunday.

If you prefer the arts, check out the Macau Cultural Center, where you can see an arty film in the small auditorium for around $5. Or see a ballet, musical, opera, or dance performance in the Grand Auditorium for $35-40.  For open-air fun, don’t forget the Cybernetic Fountain on the Macau waterfront, where you can see nightly music performances, and laser shows on the weekends and holidays. Equipped with 86 spouts and lit by 288 spotlights, with the tallest water jet reaching 80 meters, the fountain’s dramatic displays are stunning and romantic.

If movies are your preferred kind of Macau show, the 4th level of the Macau Tower Convention and Entertainment Center has a fabulous cinema complex. Another, slightly older cinema center is located next to the Sao Francisco Garden and the Military Club.

As with everything else in Macau, there is much in development adding to the Macau show choices.  As the Cotai Strip develops, and as Fisherman’s Wharf continues to grow, we will see many more shows coming to the forefront representing even more cultures.  The opening of the Macau Stadium will help to bring more sporting events to the area, for those who enjoy a night out at a game or at the Grand Prix. Whatever your tastes, and whenever you arrive, Macau entertainment is available to keep you having fun!
