Macau Weather

The area Macau, located at the west bank of Pearl River Delta in South China, is at the intersection of Mainland China and South China Sea. It is also located at the south of tropic of Cancer. The wind directions of winter and summer are opposite. Therefore, Macao is in the monsoon region and is from the climatic classification. The most comfortable weather begins from the middle of October to December of every year.  Macau ferry service is also year-round.

Macao is in winter season from January to February. The cold air from Siberia continuously passes through the Mid China and South China into Macao region and brings us the cold and dry northerly winds. The temperature of the urban district sometimes drops below 10° C. Therefore, the annual minimum temperatures are generally recorded in these two months. The precipitation and rainy days are less, because of the insufficient water vapor in atmosphere.

March and April are the seasonal interchange periods. The wind direction along the coastal region of South China is mainly easterly to southeasterly, which causes the temperature and humidity to increase. Beside some occasional wet, foggy, drizzle and low visibility days, the weather is mainly fine in spring.

The summer in Macao is longer than other seasons. Because of hot and wet conditions, bad weather such as thunderstorms and heavy rains always occur from May to September. Water tornados occur occasionally. Meanwhile from July to September, tropical cyclones occur frequently

The autumn begins at October, when the weather of Asian Mainland becomes cool. The period of autumn in Macao is short, the weather is stable and comfortable with clear sky. It is considered the best time of year for Westerners to visit. Macau weather finally returns to cool and dry in November. The cold northern air is ready to intrude periodically in December, but Macau swimming pools are often heated during this short time, making much of Macau’s outdoor activity virtually year-round.
